Main character Madison is 16 years old and an ice skater training for the Olympics when she finds out her life is about to take a drastic turn.  Through this change, we see how Madison's special, and explosive relationship with her mom, Amy, changes and deepens.  Her best and only friend is Jackson, her teenage soul mate, and throughout their relationship, we see how special finding one's true love is, no matter at what age we find them. I would have adored this book at the age of 14, and I loved it at 30-something!  It's simply and beautifully written and evokes a lot of emotion.  Riley Weston has a gift of writing in a way that young adult readers can relate to, and adults can appreciate.

Best Line:
"He remembered the connection they had, and he knew, at seven years of age, it was for his lifetime."  That line was a reminder to me that we are lucky if we have made a special connection with someone, no matter how long we have them in our life.

Ms. Weston's debut novel is set in Anytown USA, and revolves around Annie and David Henry, and their daughter, Madison, who is an Olympic figure skating hopeful. Madison's best friend since age six is Jackson Wellington, and Maddie and Jack remain close well into high school, where she is a social outcast, and he is a popular, handsome soccer player. When tragedy befalls the teenaged Maddie, we see just how tough Annie is, what Jack is made of, and the depth of David's love for his little girl. This story has the right amount of drama, sadness and humor, with enough mother-teenage daughter angst thrown in to bring back not-so-fond memories for this reader. I would have loved this book when I was about 13 years-old. It would have been right up there with Ice Castles by Lenore Fleischer, Forever by Judy Blume and The Promise by Danielle Steel.

Best Line:
"They say when the time has come to move on, that physically, mentally and spiritually one knows when to let go completely, with no regrets, no reservations."
