Review
This easy reading, humorous book is about two women competing for the executive producer promotion to a "Martha Stewart-type" of television program called "Domestic Bliss." The show is highly-rated, but when Agnes Deville announces her retirement, Delilah White and Margo Hart, the two in line for the promotion, enter into competitive mode. Both women are excellent at their jobs, though one of the two is devious, under-handed, and will stop at nothing to win the executive producer position, while the other is equally determined, but a tad more honest. Co-worker Sofia has invited both Delilah and Margo to her family's estate in the Catskills for their annual July 4 celebration, which is THE social event of the summer. All the stops are pulled out for the elaborate party, and during the course of the 3-day holiday, the plot thickens with the evil competitor's various tricks to weaken her opponent's chance for the promotion. This IS a chick book in the sense that it's all about women. There is a little bit of romance, a lot about clothes, hair, make-up, and things to help women look beautiful, and particularly funny regarding one's enormous love of food, and the other's tendency toward anorexia. I enjoyed the book because it was short, easy, and light.

Best Line:
"You're not shit-canned," Delilah assures her, "though that's a charming term. Pick it up at finishing school?"

Stop me if you've heard this one before: smart, honest and hardworking career woman does battle with insecure, back-stabbing co-worker of the same sex over a possible promotion that could result in fame, fortune, and the love of a good man. I would think most women have not only heard this familiar story line, they've lived it. Set in New York City, Delilah White is a Martha Stewart knockoff, hosting a how-to-do-everything show called Domestic Bliss but wanting more in her career. Enter Margo Hart, a producer with the show who will do anything to get what she wants. Their worlds collide at a Fourth of July weekend party, where the thwarting of lies and underhanded tricks never ends for Delilah, though she does take some time to cultivate an interest in Jack, a man who sounds like a dream. If you are looking for a light, fluffy read with just the right mix of humor, drama and head-over-Prada heels love, then look no further. If you've lived this kind of real-life horror, well then, you've been warned.

Best Line:
"Perhaps it might be wise to concentrate first on finding a decent man who's a generous tipper and not such a frisky horndog that he's inclined to play hide the sausage on the first date."
