Review
This book consists of the fictional accounts of three people: Elodie Harrington, Chess Hunter, and Professor Kirschling, MD. Elodie is a medical mystery living in the infirmary at college, Chess is temporarily recovering at the infirmary after getting his knees smashed with a bat during a choir performance, and Dr. Kirschling is determined to be the one to discover the answers behind Elodie's illnesses, and later her encounter with a ghost. As the author weaved together diaries of the above three characters, I realized what a unique perspective she writes from. Her character descriptions are fresh and entertaining through the entire book.

Best Line:
"It was like that moment was burning so bright that everything before and after it was forced to dim, and that's as close as I can get to describing how much energy that one moment took up without taking your arm and squeezing it."

Review
Elodie Harrington is a Brown University student who has been afflicted with all kinds of illnesses since her freshman year of college, and has taken up permanent residence at the school's Health Services facility. Early on, she is approached by Dr. Mark Kirschling, who wants to study and document her many maladies, hoping one day to publish his findings. Chess Hunter is also a Brown student who, after a random act of violence targeting his kneecaps, finds himself sharing a room with Elodie for some time. Elodie and Chess develop a romance, and each chapter alternates as loves letters between the two of them, along with the writings of Dr. Kirschling thrown in for good measure. Oh, and Elodie sees ghosts. I think that was supposed to be a compelling part of this story, but I only read it as bizarre. After reading Ms. Seigel's first novel, Like The Red Panda, I was hoping for less weird in this book. Eureka! But just barely.

Best Line:
"Trust me, I've been working at Brown Health Services for four years and all that's ahead is mono, herpes, and the day you'll puke up the macaroni and cheese I've brought you because your stomach doesn't recognize anything that isn't malt liquor."
